Two directors for Agatha: Coven of Chaos have reportedly been revealed, along with the show's episode count.
According to The Illuminerdi, WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer will reportedly direct at least one episode of the upcoming Disney+ series. Gandja Monteiro, best known for her work on Showtime's The Chi, is reported to be taking up the director's seat as well. The report also claims that Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be a nine-episode limited series, putting it at the same episode count as WandaVision and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Whether the episodes run for the same length as these two shows has not been revealed and the reports have not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios. Following in the footsteps of Wandavision, the series starring Kathryn Hahn's iconic witch will also only last a single season.
There have been several recent announcements in relation to the upcoming WandaVision spinoff. It was confirmed that Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza will be joining Hahn on Coven of Chaos in an undisclosed role, although it is speculated that she will be playing a villain. Heartstopper breakout star Joe Locke was also announced to be appearing in the series in an undisclosed role as well. Fans have been theorizing that the actor might be playing an aged-up version of Billy Maximoff based on a recent casting call looking for actors to portray Wanda's twin sons. Hahn, Plaza and Locke will be joined by Emma Caulfield Ford as Sarah Proctor/Dottie Jones, who appeared in WandaVision as the leader of Westview's social setting, and Maria Dizzie and Ali Ahn, whose roles have not yet been confirmed.
Originally titled Agatha: House of Harkness, the upcoming WandaVision sequel will center around Agatha Harkness as part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans will most likely get to see Agatha in projects beyond her solo show as well, as it is reported Hahn's arrangement with Marvel Studios consists of multiple appearances in both film and television. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige explained recently that Phase 5 will move away from Phase 4's focus on introducing new superheroes to feature and flesh out already established characters like Sam Wilson/Captain America, Ant-Man and the Wasp, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Echo and Captain Marvel.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is not the only upcoming spinoff of WandaVision coming to the MCU. Vision Quest was recently revealed to be in early development, which will revolve around Paul Bettany's The Vision after he was reconstructed in the finale of WandaVision. There are rumors that Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will join the series to help restore his memory and humanity despite her apparent demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though this has not been confirmed.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to premiere in either late 2023 or early 2024 on Disney+. An exact release date has not been announced.
