AEW announced three new video games from its AEW Games division. However, that wasn't the only surprise.

Kenny Omega revealed that he helped hire the director of one of the most critically acclaimed wrestling games of all-time to work on the first AEW console game — Hideyuki Iwashita, otherwise known by his nickname Geta.

Geta directed the 2000 video game WWF No Mercy, the last professional wrestling game to hit Nintendo 64. The game was a massive hit, scoring a very high 89/100 rating on Metacritic. After Geta directed WWF No Mercy in 2000, he went on to direct Def Jam: Vendetta in 2003 and SimCity Creator in 2008. Geta will team up with Yuke's, the company that worked on the WWE 2K series until 2018.

Omega revealed he wanted the AEW console game to be like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz. He also said that he has heard fans saying they want a game that is a little more like No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling, saying, "in other words, you guys want your game to be fun."

"When I first signed with AEW, I asked Tony Khan to let me help assemble the best gaming team on the planet, to make the best wrestling games ever," Omega said. "With masterminds like Geta and the incredible team at Yuke's, we are well on the path to deliver a fresh, vastly superior gaming experience that our fans deserve."
