All Elite Wrestling has reportedly halted production of its weekly show Dynamite due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The promotion has filmed enough segments and episodes to continue airing on TNT for the foreseeable future, though it's unclear how long.
The move was reported on Wrestling Observer Radio by insider Dave Meltzer. AEW will be off for an indefinite period of time until thing clear up with the pandemic, Meltzer said.
The company has a pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing, scheduled for May 23. With everything going on, that could be taped too or canceled altogether. AEW has been filming Dynamite inside of empty arenas and other locations in the meantime as they wait to see what will happen in the oncoming weeks.
One of the biggest issues surrounding pro-wrestling today is travel and getting talent all in the same place. Restrictions have been placed in many parts of the country and world, resulting in superstars having to pull out and miss shows.
The decision to stop filming Dynamite comes less than a year after AEW first debuted on TNT. The show has blossomed into the top challenger to WWE's throne, with it regularly coming in third in the ratings every week behind Raw and SmackDown. AEW has only been around since Jan. 2019, so the break could hinder the company's growth.
AEW Dynamite airs on TNT every Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET.
