The middle of a wrestling match might not be the most conventional time to recommend your favorite comic book to a friend or colleague, but All Elite Wrestling star Leva Bates is nothing if not an innovator.Bates -- living up to her gimmick as the "The Librarian" -- evidently really wants the fantasy-themed team of Peter Avalon and Brandon Cutler to embrace comic books. During the most recent episode of AEW Dark, which aired on July 21, Avalon and Cutler -- with manager Bates in their corner -- faced off in a tag team match against The Butcher and The Blade. Late in the bout, Bates slid a copy of a Kick-Ass graphic novel to Cutler in the ring, presumably to be used as a weapon, though the referee got a hold of it before Cutler could. However, Bates also had a copy of a significantly thicker book on-hand -- Stephenie Meyer's New Moon -- which Avalon used to club one of his opponents while the ref's back was turned. The power of literature wasn't enough unfortunately, as it was Butcher and Blade who ultimately came out on top.RELATED: Gotham High Introduces an Asian-American Bruce WayneIn what appears to be another episode of Dark, Bates also seemingly tried to get Cutler to take a copy of DC Comics' YA graphic novel Gotham High by Melissa de la Cruz and Thomas Pitilli. This caught the eye of the DC Nation Twitter account, which shared a screenshot and wrote, "Spotted: [Leva Bates] recommending Gotham High to [Brandon Cutler] on [AEW]!" Of course, AEW has previously partaken in collaborative events with DC.

A professional wrestler, manager and cosplayer, Bates signed with AEW and began performing as the "Librarian" character in April of 2019. She has performed for multiple other wrestling promotions in the past, including Shimmer Women Athletes and WWE's NXT developmental brand. Bates' attires and gimmicks often borrow from comic books, video games and other pop culture, and -- in keeping with her recommendation to Cutler -- has even been billed as hailing from "Gotham City, Florida."
