After defeating Lance Archer at Double or Nothing to become AEW's Inaugural TNT Champion, "The American Nightmare" Cody has declared a weekly open challenge to anyone who wants a title shot. Considering Cody's popularity, having him defend his newly won title each and every week is an excellent way to capitalize on Cody's positive fan reaction while simultaneously promoting the roster of All Elite Wrestling.

Through this open challenge, AEW can promote Cody, the TNT Title and bring added attention to the company all in one fell swoop. While building credibility to the TNT Title, AEW can also set itself apart from WWE and the way Vince McMahon randomly books his mid-card.

By issuing an open challenge for his TNT Championship every week on Dynamite, Cody will be showcasing AEW's phenomenal yet lesser known wrestlers. AEW simply isn't as mainstream as WWE and therefore needs some help in promoting its talent. Thankfully, this open challenge will do just that.

AEW putting on a stellar TNT Title Match featuring young talent against one of its top stars will show off the promotion's roster in a thrilling and pivotal match every week. This will help establish these wrestlers to the fans and get them invested in the AEW roster. Regardless of the match result, Cody can make this roster look credible in closely contested matches which will build the integrity, not just of the AEW roster, but of the newly christened TNT Championship as well.

Naturally, there was some resistance to Cody being crowned inaugural TNT Champion, with accusations of nepotism being involved in his title win. However, if there was ever a wrestler to help promote the AEW roster, it's Cody. Although he may be one of the founding fathers of AEW, Cody still remains well-liked by the fans, and his title defenses will be sure to benefit his opponents rather than bury them.

Yes, these open challenges are sure to elevate Cody, which may seem self-serving. But, at the heart of it, these challenges will make for great entertainment nonetheless. In WWE, for example, John Cena's United States Title open challenge spawned fantastic matches with Cesaro and even made superstars on the low end of the card look like serious threats -- not to mention that Cena's open challenge helped put Kevin Owens on the map as he ascended from NXT to the main roster.

AEW can do the same thing with Cody. "The American Nightmare" can use his TNT Title open challenge to boost the careers of AEW's mid-card. MJF, Lance Archer and even Cody's first challenger, Jungle Boy, can all reap the rewards from these weekly title defenses and perhaps even become AEW's next major star. In addition to AEW's talent getting the spotlight, Dynamite gets a Title Match each week to bring in viewers, making this a win for everyone.

Contrast AEW's mid-card strategy with WWE's and the differences are night and day. While WWE may be trying something new with its champions, Vince McMahon frequently forgets he even has a mid-card. While Apollo Crews' United States Title win was a nice moment, his title shot was completely random after years of inconsistent booking.

Sadly, SmackDown hasn't fared much better, with Sami Zayn securing an Intercontinental Title win after, of all things, a three-on-one handicap match. With SmackDown now holding a tournament for the title, who knows if WWE's sporadic booking of its mid-card titles will continue, or if the blue brand will ever have a "fighting champion" which the fans always enjoy.

This open challenge is a huge opportunity to prove that AEW has something that WWE does not and that's heart. With this open challenge, AEW can display its heart and show the world what truly separates WWE from being the elite.
