A&E has given a 10-episode order to The Returned, a supernatural drama from Carlton Cuse and Raelle Tucker based on the French series Les Revenants.

The Returned focuses on a small town turned upside down when several residents, long presumed dead, suddenly reappear. As families are reunited, the lives of those who were left behind are challenged as relationships are examined and strange phenomena -- power outages, strange marks, lowering water levels in the reservoir -- begin to occur.

The first season of the original series, itself inspired by the 2004 French film Les Revenants, aired in the United States on SundanceTV; a second season has been ordered.

Cuse, who serves as showrunner on A&E's Bates Motel, penned the first episode of the new version, and will write and executive produce the series with Tucker (True Blood). Casting is expected to get under way immediately, with filming set to begin this summer on the A+E Studios and FremantleMedia North America co-production.
