HBO Max has just released a new trailer for BMO, one of four hour-long specials to be released under the umbrella title of Adventure Time: Distant Lands.

Distant Lands is a follow-up series to the original Adventure Time, which ran for ten seasons on Cartoon Network and ended in 2018. The show will be exclusive to HBO Max, HBO's new streaming service, and the first of the four specials, BMO, is planned to be released later this year.

The trailer shows the titular BMO, the living electronic companion of Jake and Finn, arriving on an alien station composed of sealed "pods" where they make the acquaintance of a rabbit humanoid and a shapeshifting being with one eye. According to the narration for the trailer, the world in question "sits on the brink of destruction," and BMO may be the one to save it.

Early in the trailer, a voice cries out that "we're on the verge of station-wide collapse," and BMO states that they need to "evacuate the citizens." It seems likely that the station is in danger of some sort of mechanical failure. There are also hints of a conflict between the station's two resident species.

It looks like BMO may be the one to restore order to the alien planet - BMO refers to themself as a "sheriff" in the trailer, and wears their shapeshifting companion as a cowboy hat for much of it, evoking the Wild West of the American frontier.

Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time: Distant Lands will air exclusively on HBO Max. A release date has yet to be announced.
