Adi Shankar Developing Legend of Zelda Television Series

Seems like the next video game franchise to get a television adaptation will be none other than Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise. Adi Shankar, producer of Netflix’s Castlevania series, is said to be attached to the series. Last night on Instagram, Shankar made a post saying that he was working with an “iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series."

Now, according to The Wrap, it sounds like Shankar was referring to Nintendo and the Zelda series. The franchise’s most recent release, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, from last year, became the bestselling Zelda game by this past summer. Shankar also has a history of video game adaptations. In addition to Castlevania, he’s also the producer of an upcoming animated series for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise, which released a new installment this month in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.

The second season of Castlevania released this past weekend to largely positive reviews from fans and critics. A third season for the series has been all but confirmed and will likely release next year. Zelda joins the aforementioned Creed and Microsoft’s Halo franchise in receiving television adaptations, with Halo expected to begin shooting early next year for a 2019 release.
