During one of the after credit scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol: 2, viewers were teased with the addition of a character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that many comic fans have been waiting for: Adam Warlock. Since then, fans have been wondering if the character will make an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case.

During a recent Q&A session on Facebook, James Gunn (the director of both Guardians of the Galaxy films) revealed that Warlock would not be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War despite his introduction into the MCU. "Adam Warlock will not be in Infinity War," Gunn stated, bluntly."He will have a future in the MCU. But will it be in Infinity War? It will not.”

For those unaware, Warlock is a long standing member of Marvel’s universe, and has even gone toe-to-toe with Thanos himself. Since his introduction, fans have been speculating on what role Warlock will play as the cosmic corner of the MCU continues to expand.

Given the end of the second Guardians film , it’s not crazy to theorize that he may well be the villain in the third movie, and it’s even possible he finds a place in the future Avengers films. Regardless of where he next appears, it’s good to know that he will at least be part of the plan moving forward, and will almost assuredly be a focal point in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is rumored to release sometime in 2020.
