Parks and Recreation alum Adam Scott has asked Republican Senator and House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to stop using his image on social media.

On June 24, McConnell's official "Team Mitch" account used a GIF that shows Scott's Parks and Rec character Ben Wyatt at a celebration. "Dear Mitch McConnell & all those representing him, Please refrain from using my image in support of anything but your own stunning & humiliating defeat. Thanks! Adam," the actor responded two days later.

Team Mitch tried to make light of the situation with another image from the series, which shows a newspaper clipping of Wyatt's failed tenure in the mayor's office as a teenager. Scott shot back with a photo of McConnell in front of the Confederate flag.

Recently, McConnell was chided by comedian and commentator Jon Stewart for standing in the way of extending health care benefits to first responders from Ground Zero on September 11, 2001. McConnell is also a staunch supporter of controversial President Donald Trump. Scott's request and his hope for McConnell's defeat clearly show the actor's political leanings.

Scott is only one of many celebrities who have explicitly asked Republicans to stop using their images or work. Prominent musicians such as Rihanna and Neil Young have also taken steps to ensure their music and art are not used to promote ideas and ideologies with which they disagree.

Scott's fans on Twitter have shown only support for the actor's decision, adding their own GIFs and memes to the protest thread.
