Adam Sandler and Kathy Bates had an entertaining exchange regarding Monday morning's Academy Awards nominations.

Kathy Bates (an Academy Award winner for Misery) received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Clint Eastwood's drama Richard Jewell, following a nomination at the 77th Golden Globes Awards. Absent from the nominees was Saturday Night Live legend Adam Sandler, who received positive reviews and Oscar buzz for his lead role in the Safdi Brother's Uncut Gems. Sandler shared his reaction to Bates' nomination on Twitter, with Bates responding to The Waterboy co-star.

"Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy. Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits," he said. Sandler then congratulated his former co-star while posting a photo of Bates' character from The Waterboy. Not missing a beat, Bates responded to the tweet with: "I love you my Bobby Boucher!!! You was robbed!! But Mama loves you!!! I learned a new urban slang word for you! You da GOAT!! Not the one we eat at home, Son."

Fans of the 1998 football comedy were no doubt excited to see the dynamic duo back in character, with one fan replying, "Already the best twitter interaction of 2020."

Sandler's Oscar omission was one of many surprising snubs. The often critically divisive Sandler previously threatened to release a film "so bad on purpose" if he didn't win an Oscar for Uncut Gems. The world now waits with bated breath to see if the Jack and Jill filmmaker makes good on his promise.

The 92nd Academy Awards air on ABC on Sunday, Feb 9.
