Although there's been a lot of hype for the upcoming space epic Ad Astra, not a whole lot has been revealed about its plot; we knew Brad Pitt plays the son of a long-lost astronaut tasked with a mission to reconnect with a father he long thought dead, that said mission has impressive moon rover chases and that it evokes memories of Interstellar.

However, the new IMAX trailer provides audiences with their clearest look yet at one of this year's awards season early contenders, and it certainly looks like seeing it on the biggest screen possible will be the way to go.

While there are certainly still echoes of Christopher Nolan's 2014 blockbuster, it very much looks like its own thing, with a more lived-in solar system to explore and its own pretty phenomenal mega-cast. Luckily, curious space fans won't have to wait long to check it out for themselves.

Directed by James Gray from a script by himself and Ethan Gross, Ad Astra stars Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Nega, Liv Tyler and Donald Sutherland. The film premieres next week at the Venice Film Festival before landing in theaters on September 20.
