Los Angeles, May 26, 2006: Jim McLauchlin, president of A Commitment To Our Roots (A.C.T.O.R.), a non-profit group dedicated to raising funds and supporting comic book creators needing assistance, announced today that Non-Sport Update magazine, in conjunction with the support of trading card manufacturers, raised a total of $4,773 through a series of raffles and online auctions.
Roxanne Toser, publisher of Non-Sport Update magazine explained "Our first plan of attack, for the benefit of A.C.T.O.R., was a series of raffle baskets containing premium non-sport trading cards donated by numerous trading card manufacturers as well as donations by NSU Card Talk Members (the online forum of Non-Sport Update magazine)." The baskets were then raffled off at the Spring Philly Non-Sports Card Show. A listing of the basket contents (including all the manufacturer donations) can be found online at:
A series of 7 silent auctions were also held with items from several manufacturers, including a Stargate SG-1 Season 8 unopened Archive Box (donated by Rittenhouse Archives), a Sopranos Season 1 master set (donated by Inkworks), and a Cynthia Cummens Lord of the Rings Evolution sketch card (donated by Topps).
Charlie Novinskie, A.C.T.O.R. board member and frequent contributor to Non-Sport Update magazine was overwhelmed by the donation, "This is, as far as I can recall in my five years with A.C.T.O.R., the first time that the trading card industry has made a concerted effort to support A.C.T.O.R. Considering the crossover between trading card and comic book properties, as well as the crossover of creators, it was a true testimony to the commitment of support from collectors and manufacturers alike."
Roxanne Toser had nothing but praise for the efforts of Joanna Kohlbus and NSU Card Talk Members, as well as card manufactures Rittenhouse Archives, Inkworks, Topps, Dynamic Forces, Largo Intergalactic ViE, Artbox Entertainment, Comic Images, and Breygent Marketing.
