Plenty of action franchises have actually been based on comic books. In the same vein, there have been plenty of action films that have had comics based on them subsequently released. So many of these different movie series have the potential to be an ongoing comics title.

We're taking a look at 10 different action movie franchises that have and haven't had a comic series in the past, but should certainly get one in the modern era of comics, as they would perfectly fit into this visual medium of art and speech bubbles.

10 Fast And The Furious

Vin Diesel is no stranger to comic book franchises, and it would be interesting to see the roles reversed, with a Diesel project actually becoming a comic book series. There's never been a comic title based on this car franchise.

However, not only with this medium be really interesting to explore the high-speed conflicts that take place in this universe, but with various spin-offs, this franchise has already included elements, such as superhuman strength, that are familiar to the genre.

9 John Wick

This movie series has indeed had a comic book title based on it, but there's so much more to explore here. Outside of the John Wick character himself, it would be great to see a spin-off series that is in canon and expands the world further.

This landscape of assassins across the world, forming a secret society that seems to run civilization in some way, is the perfect set up to a comic series. It would be a shame to pass up this opportunity when the comic based on the character himself has been so well received.

8 Taken

This Liam Neeson series has never received a comic book title; however, it's easy to see why it could. Taking this man with a particular set of skills and putting him in intense situations would work well in this format.

While he can't be chasing after his wife, daughter, or whatever he has lost every issue, there's a couple of grander themes that can play into the series. A great way to set it up is to have a series of kidnappings that create an ongoing investigation he is brought in to advise on.

7 Unbreakable

There's a whole universe of movies that have come from this initial film starring Bruce Willis. Since the franchise is of course based on comics, with super villains such as Glass, it makes sense to move this into the genre it's based upon.

Although the main characters of the franchise are dead, there can absolutely be a continuation of this world as humans start to realize there are those that are gifted among them. The comics could act as a sequel in many respects and be a cool way to continue to explore this narrative.

6 Indiana Jones

A long time ago, there were actually comics based on the popular hero Indiana Jones. Some were published by Dark Horse, and some were distributed by Marvel instead. Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, it might be time to return to this franchise.

While a film based on the adventurer is coming out next year, a comic series could be able to bridge the gap and hopefully explain some more details about what Indy and his family have been up to for all these years.

5 Mission Impossible

Spy stories work brilliantly in comics and with so many moving elements, this franchise might be perfectly built for the format. From crazy stunts to face changing technology, there's a lot to work with if someone wanted to make a comic on the Tom Cruise franchise.

Much like many of these other titles, this could be used to expand the world further and perhaps even look at a number of different field agents that we don't often see. Alternatively, this could fill in the gaps of these stories, perhaps looking at a different agent each week.

4 Expendables

A series of action heroes banding together to take on ridiculous threats in an over the top way. What could translate to comics better than that? A title based on this franchise would certainly be a lot of fun for comic book fans.

It would be colorful, in your face, and totally chaotic. With famous faces throughout its pages, the threats that they face could become more and more bizarre as the title continues on. This action franchise was made for comics.

3 James Bond

The Bond franchise has made its way to comics before but not for a while now. With the series continuing to go from strength to strength its surprising that a comic title hasn't been brought out about it.

The problem is choosing which version of Bond would be put to the page. Perhaps an original version, separate from the films, would actually be the most logical as it can continue to run without interference from ongoing movie canon.

2 Bourne

Initially based on a series of best-selling books, this Matt Damon series, much like the other espionage series on this list, would work well as a comic title. However, there's more to explore here.

Perhaps the comic can follow a number of other characters that have a similar background to Jason Bourne, much like the Jeremy Renner spin-off of the franchise did in the movies.

1 Mad Max

There has been a comic series based on the latest movie in the franchise; however, there hasn't been any that have continued on the adventure past this. However, what could be more exciting is learning about how the Earth came to be like it is.

A comic series tracing the coming apocalypse and leading all the way up to the introduction of Mad Max himself would be a completely unique angle to take on this familiar brand.
