Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Philip Lord and Christopher Miller have asked fans not to bash other films.

"Loving the outpouring of love and joy and passion and appreciation of #SpiderVerse - it warms my heart!" Miller wrote on Twitter. "But there’s no need to put down other films while celebrating this one. Let’s ride this positive feeling!" Lord responded to this tweet with his own statement, saying, "Absolutely correct. Not a zero sum game!"

Across the Spider-Verse has been in theaters for less than a week and has already surpassed $208 million at the domestic box office, far outpacing the opening weekend earnings of 2018's Into the Spider-Verse. The film debuted to a box office haul of $120.5 million, almost four times as much as its predecessor, which opened at $35.5 million and ended its run with $384 million.

Lord and Miller co-wrote the sequel alongside David Callaham. At the time of writing, Across the Spider-Verse boasts a critics score of 95% on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96% audience score. Reviews for the film have so far praised it for its storytelling, action, and animation styles.

Across the Spider-Verse's Star-Studded Cast

Across the Spider-Verse sees the return of Miles Morales (Shamiek Moore) and Gwen Stacey (Hailee Steinfeld) travel across the multiverse to stop a new villain known as The Spot who is threatening to wipe out all Spider-People. The film features a stacked voice cast, including Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India. In a recent interview, Kaluuya stated that he'd like to see other major names such as Snoop Dogg and Bill Murray appear in the franchise's third film, Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The Spider-Verse series has drawn fans from a range of ages and even included a scene that was animated by a 14-year-old fan. Co-director Joaquim Dos Santos recently revealed that the film's brief LEGO scene was animated by Preston Mutanga, who runs the YouTube channel, LegoMe_TheOG. "The funny thing about the LEGO scene, that was a kid that recreated one of the teasers on social media, so he was hired," Dos Santos said. "That was a 14-year-old’s work."

Beyond the Spider-Verse which is set to release on March 29, 2024. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is in theaters now.
