A new look at Spider-Gwen in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been released.

Empire debuted the official image, which seemingly shows Spider-Gwen navigating the Spider-Verse. The film's producer Christopher Miller also revealed to Empire that Gwen’s world, designated Earth-65 in the film, has been animated in a "watercolour-wash style that’s reminiscent of the covers of her comic books." Hailee Steinfeld will reprise her role from the first film as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen in Across the Spider-Verse.

Across the Spider-Verse began development ahead of the release of 2018's Into the Spider-Verse with Sony officially confirming the sequel in November 2019. Producers Phil Lord and Miller have stated that Across the Spider-Verse is substantially bigger than the original movie, with the upcoming sequel set to feature six different animation styles. Lord explained that the goal of Across the Spider-Verse is to "wow you every time you enter a new environment, and also to make sure that the style of the movie reflect the story, and that the images are driven by feelings, as opposed to some egg-headed art project. Which it also is, by the way!"

Across the Spider-Verse Will Feature Multiple Spider-Men

Spider-Gwen will not be the only Spider-Man-related superhero set to appear in Across the Spider-Verse, with the upcoming sequel set to continue the first film's trend of featuring alternate universe versions of Spider-Man. While Spider-Gwen, Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man, SP//dr, Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham helped Miles Morales defeat Kingpin in Into the Spider-Verse, only Steinfeld's Gwen Spider-Gwen and Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker have been confirmed to be returning for Across the Spider-Verse. Instead, the sequel will feature new Spider-Man variants like Spider-Punk (voiced by Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya), Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider, Takuya Yamashiro/Spider-Man (from the 1978 Spider-Man series) and Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Issa Rae and Oscar Isaac will also appear in the film as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman and Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 respectively, with Isaac reprising his voice role as Spider-Man 2099 from the first film's post-credits scene.

Other cast members confirmed for Across the Spider-Verse include Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, Luna Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales, Rachel Dratch as Mile's school counselor and Shea Whigham as police captain George Stacy. Jorma Taccone, who voiced the Green Goblin in the 2018 film, will voice a Renaissance-themed Vulture variant while Jason Schwartzman will play The Spot, a villain whose whole body is covered in interdimensional portals that can send him anywhere he wants to go as well as make these portals appear out of thin air to transport objects and people at his will.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opens in theaters on June 2, 2023.
