A new look at Spider-Punk in Sony's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been revealed courtesy of some new merchandise based on the upcoming animated film.

A couple of Reddit users recently spotted a new action figure for Spider-Punk, who is shown sporting a comics-accurate design in the images. The first character description for the Marvel Comics character was also revealed on the toy box, claiming that Spider-Punk is "a British punk rock Spider-Man with a wicked electric guitar." The Spider-Man variant will be one of several new characters introduced in the sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which will once again focus on Miles Morales' early adventures as Spider-Man.

Created by writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel, Hobart Brown/Spider-Man, aka Spider-Punk, first appeared in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man #10. The Spider-Man of the punk rock-themed Earth-138, Hobart gained his powers after being bitten by a spider that was irradiated as part of President Norman Osborn's toxic waste dumping. Across the Spider-Verse will mark the character's second animated appearance after a small cameo in the 2012 animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, where he was voiced by Drake Bell.

A Whole Multiverse of Spider-Men

Across the Spider-Verse will continue the first film's trend of featuring alternate universe versions of Spider-Man. While Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man (Jake Johnson), Peni Parker/SP//dr (Kimiko Glenn), Peter Parker/Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) and Peter Porker/Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) helped Miles Morales defeat Kingpin in Into the Spider-Verse, only Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy and Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker have been confirmed to be returning for Across the Spider-Verse. Instead, the sequel will introduce new Spider-Man variants like Spider-Punk, Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider and Takuya Yamashiro/Spider-Man (from the 1978 Spider-Man series) as well as Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman.

Oscar Isaac will also be back for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, reprising his voice role as Spider-Man 2099 from the post-credits scene in Into the Spider-Verse. Other actors returning from the 2018 film include Shameik Moore as Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis and Luna Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales.

Similar to the first film, Across the Spider-Verse will feature two villains with Jorma Taccone set to voice The Vulture while Jason Schwartzman will play The Spot, a villain whose whole body is covered in interdimensional portals that can send him anywhere he wants to go as well as make these portals appear out of thin air to transport objects and people at his will.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opens in theaters on June 2, 2023. A sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will release just under a year later on March 29, 2024.
