Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse received a new international poster ahead of its theatrical release in China.Shared on Twitter, the special key art is seemingly a depiction of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, featuring the Spider-Men as the story’s legendary heroes, including Miles Morales as Sun Wukong/ Monkey King. He's surrounded by various other Spider-People brandishing weapons including Spider-Gwen and Spider-Punk and Spider-Man 2099, who some fans believe is meant to represent Tripitaka. While the image has yet to be released in the West, it is confirmed to be official for Mainland China.RELATED: Across the Spider-Verse Reveals a Far More Dangerous Version of The Spot

Across the Spider-Verse will be the first Spider-Man movie in nearly four years to be granted a release date in China since Spider-Man: Far From Home. Marvel Studios and Sony's most recent Spider-Man movies, Spider: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage were both unable to debut in the world’s second-biggest film market in 2021.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hails from directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers. After winning the best-animated feature at the 91st Oscars for Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also back to serve as co-writers and producers on the animated sequel. When the project was first announced, Lord and Miller confirmed that they’d enlisted more than 1,000 animators to work on the massive sequel, breaking the record for "the largest crew of an animated movie ever."

The highly-anticipated sequel’s returning voice cast includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/ Spider-Man 2099. In a previous interview, Moore expressed his commitment to his Spider-Verse character, revealing that he "would be a great [live-action] Miles Morales." However, he acknowledges that he may be too old to be considered for the role should Sony decide to integrate Miles Morales into future live-action Spider-Man movies.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will continue Miles Morales’ superhero journey as he becomes involved in another high-stakes multiversal mission. Just like the first installment, Miles will meet new Spider-Man variants from different universes including Jessica Drew/ Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Hobie Brown/ Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), Pavitr Prabhakar/ Spider-Man India (Karan Soni), and more. Together, they will go up against an interdimensional threat in the form of The Spot, voiced by Jason Schwartzman, who has the ability to travel between universes.

Co-director Powers recently clarified fan speculation about Across the Spider-Verse’s connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirming that "the world of Miles Morales and Spider-Verse" doesn’t have any direct ties to it. "But this is a Lord and Miller film. We like to have a little bit of fun, we like to be a little bit meta and to acknowledge the world in which we are creating these stories," he explained. "That's the best way to explain it."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres in theaters on June 2.
