Sony Pictures has confirmed the cast of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, including the actor behind Scarlet Spider. Shared by Sony Pictures on both Instagram and Twitter, it was confirmed that actor Andy Samberg will voice Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider in the upcoming animated Spider-Verse sequel. Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider was created by writer Gerry Conway. He made his Marvel Comics debut in 1975's The Amazing Spider-Man #149 as a clone of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Apart from introducing the cast of Across the Spider-Verse, Sony also confirmed that Amanda Stenberg will provide the voice for Spider-Byte in the film. Samberg and Stenberg join a star-studded cast of Spider-People, consisting of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Karani Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India and Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk.

Up until this announcement, the voice behind Scarlet Spider was top secret, even to the rest of the cast. "I can't wait for people to hear who voices him," Across the Spider-Verse co-director Joaquim Dos Santos said in April. "[The actor's identity] still hasn't been released, but I love our Scarlet Spider actor. Not even the actors know! Everyone is sworn to secrecy, and they record alone, so most of them are discovering with the public who is in the film they've been making. Their reactions have been pretty hilarious."

How Many Spider-People Are There in the Multiverse?

It is currently unknown exactly how many variants of Spider-Man the animated adventure will boast, though producer Chris Miller stated that "amidst the universe-hopping, there are 240 unique characters... but they're mostly minor or background characters." Of those unique characters, it was recently confirmed that the amount of named characters in the film comes just shy of 100.

"But I think it was about 280 the last time I looked in," said co-director Justin Thompson. "Just to be clear, that doesn't mean specific, unique characters that you might recognize, it might mean variations as well. But if you're just talking about named characters, then I think there's probably about 95." In terms of the film's scale, Across the Spider-Verse will also feature six unique animation styles for each dimension.

Promotional material released for the film so far also revealed multiple other Spider-Variants, including Doppelganger, Otto Octavius/Superior Spider-Man, Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman, Mary Jane Watson-Parker/Spinneret and Anna-May Parker/Spiderling, among others.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters June 2.
