New photos from the set of The Acolyte just revealed one of the upcoming Star Wars series' locales: a gritty town complete with claustrophobic walkways. The unofficial behind-the-scenes images come courtesy of Bespin Bulletin. They provide an aerial view of the partially completed outdoor set where it stands at Shinfield Studios, Berkshire in South East England. The set's layout and architecture resemble those of environments seen in previous Disney+ shows, particularly the small desert communities in The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, suggesting it is also meant to represent a town or village and not a sprawling metropolis. It's impossible to say for certain, though, as visual effects added in post-production could dramatically increase the set's size on-screen.Related: Star Wars: The Acolyte Casts Squid Game's Lee Jung-jae in Lead Role

How the town locale fits into The Acolyte's plot isn't currently clear, as details concerning the series' plot remain thin on the ground. What is known is that The Acolyte is set over 100 years before the events of the Star Wars movies, during the High Republic Era, and it will reportedly chart the exploits of a female lead caught up in an action-thriller. Recent rumors indicate that the series will include at least one major connection to the films, as well, with a source close to the production claiming that legendary Sith Lord Darth Plagueis will feature in The Acolyte in some capacity.

The Acolyte's Cast and Crew is Coming Together

While plot specifics remain hazy, The Acolyte's cast and crew line-up continues to come together. The Good Place star Manny Jacinto is the latest actor to board the production, joining previously announced cast members Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith and Lee Jung-jae. Lucasfilm and Disney+ have yet to disclose character names or details for any of the roles filled so far, however, Jung-jae and Stenberg will apparently play the male and female leads, respectively.

Shifting focus to behind the camera, it appears that The Acolyte may have landed a director. Insiders allege that Loki's Kate Herron is in talks to join the production, although whether she is in the running to helm some or all of the show's episodes isn't known. These same insiders also can't agree on how far along discussions between Herron and Lucasfilm are, leading to conflicting reports that the director has either signed on for the project or is still yet to commit. Neither Herron nor Lucasfilm have publicly commented on her supposed involvement with The Acolyte, so it should be treated as pure speculation for now.

The Acolyte does not yet have a release date.
