Ace Ventura is back on the case, thanks to the screenwriters behind Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller have been tapped to write the third Ace Ventura film from Morgan Creek Entertainment, which was behind the original two films.

"We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise..." Morgan Creek told Park Circus in a statement. "During COVID, audiences have been in love and are thrilled to have beloved characters brought back with new stories. Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion-picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers."

Created by Jack Bernstein, the Ace Ventura franchise launched in 1994 with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, starring Jim Carrey as the eponymous eccentric pet detective who must locate the stolen Miami Dolphins mascot. A sequel, When Nature Calls, came out the following year, as well as an animated series that ran from 1995-1997 and Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective in 2009.

Amazon has had success with another revival of a classic comedy franchise in the form of Coming 2 America. A sequel to the original 1988 classic Coming to America, Coming 2 America was sold to Amazon Studios by Paramount after plans for a theatrical release were scrapped due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Casey and Miller are also working on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which reunites them with director Jeff Fowler and Ace Ventura lead Jim Carrey -- who plays the evil Dr. Robotnik.
