WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool #1 by Frank Tieri, Marcelo Ferreira, Roberto Poggi, Rachelle Rosenberg and Joe Sabino, in stores now.

Deadpool is a deeply odd character -- and not just because he can get his head sliced off and live to tell the tale. The excessively violent character also has a wacky, zany sense of humor that sets him apart from the rest. His particular brand of crazy is the source of plenty of big laughs, no matter which medium you may find him in.

This dichotomy of violent murder and jovial innocence is perfectly illustrated in pop-culture whenever you see the Merc with a Mouth associated with a unicorn. Whether it's the unicorn drawings of the Deadpool movie or the character actually riding a unicorn in Funko Pop! form, there are plenty of instances where the character is associated with the mythical flying horse.

Now, in Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool #1, Marvel merges the two by making it official: Wade Wilson is in fact a unicorn, to the Spider-Man villain Carnage at least.

For the past few months, Carnage has slowly been getting ready to declare war on the Marvel Universe. In Absolute Carnage, the psychopathic, murderous supervillain has set his sights on every character who has ever bonded with a symbiote. As we learned, the symbiotes leave behind a piece of themselves inside their host's spleen, a codex that communicates information to the Klyntar hive-mind. Cletus Kasady is looking to keep each and every one of these codexes in order to gain power and wake Knull, the god of the symbiotes.

And Deadpool has more codexes than any other human character in the Marvel Universe.

Absolute Carnage vs Deadpool unicorn

While Absolute Carnage vs. Deadpool #1 mostly serves to setup the confrontation between the two titular characters,  Peter Parker advises him to pay a visit to the Ravencroft Institute, and Wade actually listens to his on again/off again partner. What he doesn't know however is that the institute's been taken over by Carnage and his minions. Thankfully, Wade is able to make it out alive -- but not without a target on his back.

After their brief encounter, Carnage has that Deadpool is literally a one-in-a-million "unicorn." While most of Carnage's targets have only bonded with a single symbiote, Wade has actually previously bonded with four symbiotes, primarily in the 2014 Deadpool vs. Carnage miniseries. Therefore, if Carnage gets his hands on Wade, he will get four codexes in one fell swoop, which is bond to make him more powerful and even more dangerous.

Thanks to his healing powers, Deadpool is one of the few Marvel characters  who could survive getting his spleen ripped out of his body. But even if Deadpool is able to survive Carnage's attack, the rest of the Marvel Universe might not be so lucky once Carnage gets his hand on Deadpool's codexes.
