In the announcement for their Spider-Man limited series, J.J. Abrams and his son Henry promised to pit the web-slinger against a brand new villain.

"We're really excited there's a crazy new villain named Cadaverous that we can't wait for you to meet," J.J. Abrams teased in the video. Per the original report, Cadaverous "will cause problems for Spider-Man, his alter-ego, Peter Parker, and his beloved Mary Jane Watson."

While most stories details have been kept under wraps, we may have already gotten our first look at Cadaverous in Olivier Coipel's cover for issue #1. In the cover, a hooded figure with glowing red eyes looms behind Spider-Man and Mary Jane as they swing through the city.

Marvel's big announcement follows a four-day countdown. Starting Sunday, Marvel's social media posted images of a web that contained a single number, starting with four and counting down to one. The initial post was met with a lot of speculation, but the true reason behind the countdown wasn't revealed until earlier today.

With a cover by Olivier Coipel, Spider-Man #1 by J.J. Abrams, Henry Abrams, Sara Pichelli and Dave Stewart goes on sale in September.
