The Hulk is certainly one of the most iconic Marvel superheroes ever since he can be his own greatest enemy. Not many superheroes are like that; he's as much a danger as his enemies especially to the people he's saving. Hence, he always has one foot out the door when it comes to being an Avenger. Since he's infinitely stronger too, meaning his enemies are even more troublesome than him.

It's hard to make supervillains more powerful than the Hulk without breaking some comic book rules but they somehow managed. So now, we have ourselves an abomination, the Abomination (Emil Blonsky). He's Hulk's strongest enemy and even managed to retain his mind after becoming a monster. He's as weird as his name and his appearance. He might be one of the strongest Hulk villains, but his uncanny shenanigans have led to a colorful supervillain résumé. Here are 10 of those odd facts about Abomination.

10 HE ALSO HAD A SPECIAL UNKNOWN GENE LIKE BRUCE BANNER

Emil Blonsky in The Incredible Hulk.

One doesn't need to bathe in gamma radiation in order to know its effects; it will outright kill any organic creature, including humans. Bruce Banner or the Hulk, on the other hand, has some unknown special gene which allowed him to survive gamma radiation. Turns out, he wasn't the only one capable of such a feat, Emil Blonsky, an Eastern European spy who infiltrated the US, also shared the same quality.

What were the chances, right? Anyway, like Banner, Blonsky only accidentally bathed himself in gamma radiation. During an infiltration in one of General Ross' military laboratory, Banner also happened to be there. He was due to be bathed in gamma rays in order to undo the Hulk but Blonsky also happened to be infiltrating the very same lab room Banner was in. So yeah, the only two people on Earth with the genes to withstand at take advantage of gamma radiation also managed to cross paths.

9 HE'S BEEN AROUND OUTER SPACE

Like the Hulk, Blonsky gets around not just on Earth, but also beyond. He has seen his fair share of space and otherworldly travels like his superhero counterpart. This began after the Abomination was kidnapped by The Stranger. The Stranger took the Abomination to his own planet as a reserve weapon or agent to be used in his future endeavors.

At one point, Blonsky was even summoned to defeat the Silver Surfer but lost the fight. During his tenure as The Stranger's agent, he even staged an uprising and managed to bring Thor to The Stranger's planet for help. Still, Thor found out Blonsky's true intentions, fought him, and defeated him.

8 HE BECAME HULK'S SHIPMATE AT ONE POINT

As stated before, Blonsky managed to escape The Stranger's grasp, went around the galaxy, back to Earth, then to space again, before finally left himself floating around an asteroid. He was found and rescued by the alien Xeron the Starslayer who conscripted him under the employ of Captain Cybor. Blonsky proved to be a fierce space crew and quickly became the first mate to Cybor.

Much to Blonsky's rage, however, Cybor also came upon the Hulk during one of their space travels and also conscripted him aboard the crew. As such, the Hulk and Abomination became shipmates. Of course, they clashed and fought aboard the ship until it got destroyed by a stronger alien beast named Klaatu. Afterward, both the Hulk and Abomination tumbled back down to Earth separately like mini green meteors.

7 LED A COMMUNITY OF MISFITS

After returning back to Earth from his space adventures, Blonsky suffered defeat after defeat at the hands of the Hulk, the Avengers, and even other supervillains. He finally settled down in the sewers of New York to seek refuge there. After all, he doesn't really have an impressive win streak.

Blonsky as the Abomination wandered around the sewers where his presence attracted all kinds of misfits and society's rejects. People began forming a community around him and eventually, they became big enough to have a name for themselves: the Forgotten. They changed this later to the Abominations with him as their leader.

6 HE SORT OF BECAME AN ANTIHERO

Since the Abomination and his band of misfits lived in the New York underground, they were treated as an eyesore by the authorities. As expected, the Forgotten also brushed up with the likes of criminals and other scum who may or may not all be evil. Some were simply forced to turn to a life of crime or to homelessness due to poverty.

When the police come cracking down on them, it was Blonsky who often acted as their "protector." At times, Blonsky's homeless misfit community gets caught in a crossfire between the police and drug traffickers, but Blonsky was there to fight for the oppressed. He even managed to defeat the Hulk during his stint as protector of the downtrodden. It's too bad he killed the police and news reporters because otherwise, he would have been an awesome antihero.

5 ALWAYS COMPARED HIMSELF TO THE HULK

The Abomination's hate relationship with the Hulk transcends the physical aspect as well. He often competes with the Hulk not only with strength and feats but also in status and happiness. Oftentimes, Blonsky considers himself as equal with the Hulk when it comes to how lonely or hopeless their life is. Because when all has been said and done, Hulk is the only one Blonsky has.

Hence, when Blonsky found out that Bruce Banner and Betty Ross are going to get married, he went berserk. The Abomination snuck into Betty Ross' hospital room after she got sick and murdered her simply because he didn't want Bruce to have a better life than him. He's pretty much that jealous twin brother who doesn't want his other twin getting better stuff.

4 WORKED AS A CREATIVE WRITING TEACHER

After killing Betty Ross, the Abomination hid and became a fugitive. He disguised himself with a huge hooded robe and wrapped himself in bandages to appear like a normal pedestrian... despite being an eight feet tall muscled mass. Blonsky also tried to reintegrate with society somehow, instead of seeking solace in New York's sewers, he became a writing teacher somewhere. Really.

Laugh all you want, but he was quite a dramatic and insightful teacher. He even juxtaposed the many tragic events in his life as his writing tips and story examples. On a final note, before he resigned shortly after his writing teacher course, Blonsky said to his students that happy endings are for lazy writers only. What. A. Drama. Queen.

3 BRUCE BANNER SLEPT WITH HIS WIFE

Abomination and his wife from Marvel comics

Bruce Banner never really had his vengeance when the Abomination killed Betty. However, he managed to accidentally (or luckily) get back at Blonsky... by sleeping with his wife, Nadia. Banner was out traveling as a fugitive in the middle of nowhere in the US when he happened upon a small-town diner run by a scarred blonde lady. Banner saved the woman from some abusive truckers and she invited him over to stay the night.

The two even, *ahem* shared a steamy night in one bed. Turns out, the woman was Blonsky's wife, Nadia who worked undercover to bring Banner to some shady clients who wanted him in exchange for her estranged husband Emil Blonsky. Apparently, Nadia wanted revenge on Blonsky for their years of an abusive marriage and planned the elaborate ruse to get to him. Blonsky even found out about Banner and Nadia's tryst and fought only for the Abomination to lose again.

2 THERE'S A FEMALE VERSION OF HIM

Just as the Hulk has a She-Hulk, so too does the Abomination have a female version. She's called Abominatrix and no, she doesn't drape herself in spiked black leather nor does she have a whip as a weapon. She's not the Hulk's enemy primarily, though, but the She-Hulk's since she needs her own version of the Abomination.

Her origin story is a lot more bizarre than her male counterpart's. Florence Sharples was her original named before she subjected herself to a medical experiment about premenstrual syndrome (PMS)... involving gamma rays, somehow. As you can expect, the experiment failed; her skin turned scaly green and her muscle mass and bones became denser and bigger. She also developed superpowers similar to the Abomination. That's what the scientists get for trying to subdue PMS.

1 IT WASN'T THE HULK WHO KILLED HIM

Despite the Abomination's many encounters and defeats with the Hulk, it wasn't his arch-nemesis who killed him. The Abomination even miraculously manages to escape with his life every time after a savage battle with the Hulk. The honor of finally slaying the Abomination goes to General Thaddeus Ross, Betty Ross' father; also Bruce Banner's supposed father-in-law.

How did he achieve what the Hulk couldn't? Well, General Ross turned himself into his own version of the Hulk. He hated the Hulk so much that he himself underwent some twisted process and became the Red Hulk. Since it was the Abomination who killed his daughter, the Red Hulk hunted him down, beat him up and then finally shot him dead in retaliation. The Abomination did get resurrected but he was never the same stoic and lonely person again.
