ABC Developing A Second Drama Based On Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde

In a odd turn, ABC is developing not one but two dramas based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s psychological thriller The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Deadline reports that, less than a month after buying a contemporary take on the tale by Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner, the network has picked up what’s described as “a suspenseful, darkly romantic retelling” of the classic story from Mark Gordon Co. and writer Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice).

Set in modern San Francisco, the drama follows a female criminal psychologist drawn into the world of a brilliant but inhibited scientist and his volatile alter ego. The project may have a sci-fi twist, perhaps related to cloning.

There are also competing adaptations of Beauty and the Beast in development, although at different networks: one from Human TargetJericho writer-producer Jonathan E. Steinberg at ABC, and the other a reboot of the 1980s cult drama at The CW.
