Ahead of its upfront event, ABC has announced cancellations for "Castle," "The Muppets," "Galavant," "Nashville" and "The Family," among other series.

According to Deadline, "Castle's" cancellation comes after the network had trouble negotiating contracts with star Nathan Fillion, and his co-stars Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas, for a possible Season 9. Last month, it was announced that original cast member Tamala Jones would not be returning to the series. "Castle" ran for eight successful seasons on the network, and proved to be Fillion's longest stint on television.

The site also notes that "The Muppets" was cancelled after its one season due to the show's struggle with ratings -- having only logged only 2.7 million viewers for its finale, despite a strong start with 9 million viewers for the pilot episode.

ABC has been making several renewal decisions today -- in addition to cancelling "Agent Carter" -- before next week's upfront event, where the network is poised to sell ad time for the upcoming television season.
