Every installment of Abandoned Love we will be examining comic book stories, plots and ideas that were abandoned by a later writer without explaining that the previous story was retconned away. Today, based on a suggestion by reader Sinsear, we look at whatever happened to Blade's missing hand?

Launching around the time of Civil War, Blade's short-lived 2006-07 ongoing series was a real blast. Written by Marc Guggenheim, drawn by Howard Chaykin and Edgar Delgado with excellent Marko Djurdjevic covers, the book was a fun series.

It pit Blade against his father, who was obsessed with some prophecy that he was intent on forcing Blade into...

Blade has a clever (if drastic) way of getting out of the trap, though...

In the following issue, Blade improvises a stake by shoving a piece of wood into his stump...

He later makes it slightly less makeshift...

The series kind of sort of tied into Civil War at the beginning of the series by making Blade a registered superhero working for SHIELD, and in the next issue, he calls in a favor...

"What favor is that?" you ask?

GUN HAND, BABY!!!

The series ended with that being Blade's status quo. Gun hand or just stump. Go to the next page, then, to see how the next writer to tackle the character handled this...

In the equally fun Captain Britain and MI-13 series by Paul Cornell and a few artists, but most common being Leonard Kirk, Blade is brought on to the British superhero team in Captain Britain and MI-13 in issue #5 (by Pat Olliffe and Paul Neary)...

"What's with the hand?" you ask?

Well, as part of their incentive plan to get him to join them, they gave him a cybernetic hand!

And just like Luke Skywalker and Phil Coulson, we pretty much forget that he has a cybernetic hand from this point forward.
