Abandoned Love: Didn't Galactus Vow Never to Attack Earth Again?

Every installment of Abandoned Love we will be examining comic book stories, plots and ideas that were abandoned by a later writer without explaining that the previous story was retconned away. Today, based on a suggestion by reader Fraser, we look at how Galactus went back on his vow from his first appearance to never attack Earth again.

So Galactus showed up in Fantastic Four #48-50 by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and Joe Sinnott...

At the end, the Fantastic Four drive him away and Kirby and Lee make a point of having Galactus vow never to return and Watcher made a point to say that Galactus' word is basically his bond...

Just twenty-five issues later (still Kirby, Lee and Sinnott), he returns and pulls some BS, saying he isn't going to break his vow, but....he'll still somehow ignore his vow if they don't turn Silver Surfer over to him to find another planet for him to eat.

Just in the nick of time, the Surfer saves the day...

In Fantastic Four #121 (by Stan Lee, John Buscema and Joe Sinnott), Galactus pulls the exact same stunt..

Finally, in Fantastic Four #172, Roy Thomas, George Perez and Joe Sinnott have Galactus hold true to his pledge by atacking the OTHER Earth, the Counter-Earth...

So how did the oath go away? Go to the next page to find out!
