Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the comics posted so far!

Today we look at Scott Chantler's Northwest Passage...

Enjoy!

Scott Chantler's epic adventure story, Northwest Passage, recently received a new edition from Oni Press, so all three volumes are once again in print, which is great because it is a very enjoyable piece of historical fiction about a group of opposing forces in Rubert's Land (the area of Canada surrounding the Hudson Bay) circa 1755.

The hero of the tale is Charles Lord, a former explorer who has settled down as the Governor of a British military outpost, Fort Newcastle. As the story begins, he is retiring, but he secretly plans to once again try to discover the fabled "Northwest Passage" to the Pacific Ocean from Northern Canada.

However, the villain of the tale reveals himself soon after, as the supply ship (that will bring Lord back to England) makes a strange discovery...

Of course, these are the rogue French mercenaries, led by the villainous Guerin Montglave, who have their own plans for Fort Newcastle...

This is all the set-up. Over the next two volumes, Montglave's plan springs into effect and Newcastle falls to his forces, but Lord escapes with a ragtag group of survivors to plan his revenge. I figured I should save all that stuff for when you pick up the collected volume - this set-up stuff should be enough to what your appetite for the book!
