Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the comics posted so far!

Today we look at the Hellboy Junior Halloween Special #1, by Bill Wray, Mike Mignola and friends!

Enjoy!

The Hellboy Junior Halloween Special came out in 1997, with a two-issue mini-series following in 1998. They are both collected (along with original material) in a trade paperback that I believe is still in print.

The Halloween Special opens up with a tale of Hellboy Junior (back when he was just a little ol' demon) trying to find something to eat other than the maggots he is constantly forced to survive on. After making a deal with Hitler, Hellboy Junior heads off on a quest to find something to eat in the lower realms, but he keeps coming across wacky obstacles along the way...

Wray pretty much perfectly captures the madcap oddity of Hellboy Junior. It's so wrong that it is right!!

Wray goes even further with his second story, a twisted take-off of the Harvey "horror" characters, along with artist Stephan DeStefano...

I particularly love the resolution of the tale...

CLASSIC!

There are a bunch of other neat stories in the comic, including another one written and drawn by Wray and one drawn by Hilary Barta.

Mike Mignola contributes two stories, a short one-pager explaining the genesis of this project and a longer story, the first page of which I'll show you here...

All of this PLUS a Kevin Nowlan pin-up!!

Run, DON'T WALK, to your local comic shop to pick up a copy of this treat!
