Here is the latest in our year-long look at one cool comic (whether it be a self-contained work, an ongoing comic or a run on a long-running title that featured multiple creative teams on it over the years) a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we take a look at "The Slavers," one of the most acclaimed story arcs in Garth Ennis' Punisher Max series (Max because of explicit content! You might not want to read about The Slavers if you don't wish to see explicit content).

The series (which ran from Punisher Max #25-30, written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Leandro Fernandez with inks by Scott Koblish) opens with the Punisher coming across a young woman who is attacking a seemingly random group of gang members.

The Punisher saves her from the gang members (and finishes the job she began) and escapes with her (they run into two police officers who end up playing a major part in the arc) and takes her to one of his safe houses...

Here's a look at the "old man" that she is talking about...

The bad guys use a corrupt police detective to trick the NYPD into actually trying to take the Punisher down, and the police officers who ran into him are caught in the midst, as they have to tell everyone that the Punisher brutally attacked them (so they are quite willing to surreptitiously help the Punisher bring down the corrupt police involved in the matter).

There is one extremely graphic scene that epitomizes this story arc. Punisher comes across the woman who basically keeps the white slavery operation going.

We see that this has really affected the Punisher...

Gripping stuff (while still quite graphic, of course).

Great art with strong art work by Fernandez. It's no wonder that so many people picked it as their favorite Punisher storyline.
