Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!
Today we finish our second day of a two-day look at a classic issue of Steranko's Captain America.
When last we left Captain America #113, Captain America has just revealed himself dramatically to a bunch of Hydra bad guys who had captured the Avengers and Nick Fury in a beautiful Jim Steranko double-page spread.
Steranko followed that by a battle with Cap and Bucky (Rick Jones) and the Hydra agents including one of the most beautiful full-page fight scenes that you're ever going to see (click to enlarge)!
No wonder Steranko could not keep up the book on a regular basis, when you're putting this much detail into your work...wow.
The end result of this issue was that Captain America once again had a secret identity (although, of course, Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart years later came up with a retcon explaining that there was something else involved in Cap's identity becoming hidden again other than "Hey, here's a Steve Rogers mask! Cap must not really be Steve Rogers!").
Steranko was amazing.
