With A Simple Favor getting a sequel, fans are curious about the direction it could go. Anna Kendrick's Stephanie wrapped up the case with the missing Emily (Blake Lively), deciphering how Emily plotted to steal insurance money in a deceitful heist. It led to Stephanie, an avid book enthusiast, deciding by the film's end that she should become a private investigator after cracking the case -- something the cops couldn't even do.

Director Paul Feig could have the sleuth in Stephanie and a now-imprisoned Emily working together in a comedic take on The Silence of the Lambs, especially since Emily has a lot of crime and murder in her past. However, as Stephanie charts this new career, it's worth noting the first flick didn't solve its most twisted mystery involving her.

A Simple Favor never revealed if Chris or Davis fathered Stephanie's kid

It has to do with the truth behind her son's father and the deaths of Stephanie's husband, Davis, and her half-brother, Chris. Early on, Stephanie confessed to Emily that, after her dad died, she slept with Chris after the funeral. They were both emotional and wanted to feel closer to their father in a twisted incestuous tale. However, despite keeping it a secret, Davis got skeptical years later.

At a birthday party for their son, Davis confronted Emily, admitting Chris was way too friendly with her and that he sensed romantic and sexual tension. He eventually asked who the boy's father was, but Stephanie nervously shot him down. It hinted that Chris was possibly the dad, which made Davis ask him to go for a drive in his muscle car later during the party.

A Simple Favor never revealed if Chris or Davis fathered Stephanie's kid

Sadly, the car would crash, killing both men, but no more details got provided. It was a very abrupt end to that chapter and proved Stephanie was a hypocrite. But while Emily called her friend out for her dark secrets, Emily's truth eventually came out. She tried to kill her parents and run away with her twin, only to kill her after the drug addict tried to blackmail her regarding their past sins.

With Stephanie, though, everything was left murky. It never came to light what discussion Chris and Davis had and if some argument or physical altercation led to them fighting and the car crash. But more than that, it wasn't divulged if Chris was the dad. Now, the way Stephanie reacted to the accusations was how she behaved when she lied, meaning he probably was, but she never explained it herself.

Instead, the mystery was left open, with a nervous Stephanie forgetting her past to focus on throwing Emily behind bars for betraying her trust and endangering her own son and husband. Maybe A Simple Favor's sequel will touch on the truth regarding the paternity, but seeing as the men didn't call Stephanie via phone, the details of that discussion likely died with them.
