Rick Remender (Black Science, Deadly Class) and André Araújo (Generation Gone, Man Plus) are collaborating on a new Image Comics series entitled A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance that will release in October.
CBR has an exclusive preview of A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance #1, with the series described as a cross between the 1994 movie The Professional and Max Allan Collins' graphic novel Road to Perdition, which was adapted into a 2002 film starring Tom Hanks. A Righteous Thirst for Vengeance focuses on an unassuming protagonist who takes matters into his own hands after he unearths a dark web conspiracy to murder an innocent target. Turning himself into an unlikely guardian, the protagonist soon finds himself in the crosshairs of the men behind the contract.
"Righteous Thirst is the type of book I've wanted to do my entire career but couldn't without an artist with Andre's particular skill set and similar passion," Remender said. "This is a drift through an atmospheric crime story that chooses its moments carefully, allowing the reader to breathe before we knock their air out. A very quiet story that allows tension to build in a cinematic fashion through the lens of one of the very best artists working in comics today."
Araújo added that the book was "the type of story I've been wanting to do since I began working on comics: a story with room to breathe, to decompress and to build in a narrative delicately constructed to make sure that the powerful moments are devastating."
"Doing it with Rick elevates the experience to a whole new level," Araújo said. "He's one of the best storytellers and working with him on every bit as creative equals is a privilege and a very fulfilling endeavor."
