At a glance, indie title A Plague Tale: Innocence was a third-person adventure and stealth game that relied heavily on player ingenuity rather than brute force. However, Asobo Studio's tale of two siblings surviving violence and a deadly plague was also a powerful and harrowing narrative. For all its simple, yet effective, gameplay tactics, the game also offered a condensed emotional journey akin to Naughty Dog's The Last Of Us. That said, its sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, has taken things even further.

Continuing the journey of Amicia and Hugo de Rune's story of survival, A Plague Tale: Requiem may be as small as the first game. However, in its simplicity, it still offers a great experience for those looking for a good story or for completionists trying to make sure no stone goes unturned. That said, how long would it take for either gamer to beat and complete a game that's as emotionally intense as it is challenging?

How Long It Takes to Beat A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale Requiem large scale battle

Like the first game, A Plague Tale: Requiem follows Amicia and Hugo as they leave their ravaged home. Aside from the merciless soldiers of this apocalyptic setting that seem to never be too far away, they must also contend with hordes of violent and plague-ridden rats that are only deterred by fire and light. Needless to say, the siblings' journey to a new part of France is nothing short of surprising as they meet new allies and dangers while Amicia contends with the mental struggle of taking lives to protect her brother. While the torture may seem endless, Howlongtobeat has chronicled just how long the journey takes to complete the story.

While some players try to complete a smaller game's story at a relatively steady pace, others would prefer to speedrun the narrative. If so, players may find they can finish the story in just over 14 hours. However, for gamers who want to sit with each puzzle, truly immersed in the game and admiring the details in the locations, leisurely players should expect about 17 and a half hours to finish the story. For those playing when they can, the average completion of the story should take just under 16 hours.

While completing the story of A Plague Tale: Requiem is intense on its own due to the story, those that wish to go for a full completionist run may find that its intricacies bring more pain than happiness for the characters. For starters, those enjoying the game will have to decide how to adjust their playstyles to appease the natural upgrades that respond to their actions. There's also a decent selection of collectibles that fit two categories: souvenirs scattered throughout the environment and feathers and flowers for Hugo's collection.

Should players have missed these collectibles the first time, there's also a New Game Plus mode that could split the difference. However, with the difficulty in finding the collectibles as well as playing the game again, leisurely completionists should expect almost 30 and a half hours to get 100% completion. That said, there's still a chance to speedrun everything, which will cut down the time to 28 hours in total. On average, a 100% completionist run should take 29 hours and 11 minutes.
