All throughout May, I’ll spotlight a different webcomic. Like with the month of independent comics and the month of LGBT comics, I figure I will let you webcomic creators out there suggest your comic for spotlight during this month. So if you want me to spotlight your comic, drop me a line at email@example.com!
Today we look at Richard J. Marcej’s Daily Comic Journal, an impressively entertaining, well, you know, daily comic journal.
What impresses me most about Marcej’s daily comic is how well envisioned each piece is. Obviously, this being a daily comic (on top of all the work he does during a normal day), he does not have a whole lot of time to devote to these things, and yet they are quite well-designed and executed.
Here are a couple from the beginnings of the site…
Here are some from earlier this year…
One of the things Marcej does with the site is use it to review the films that he sees (as well as some TV shows – well, Lost, at least)…
That’s the format he uses for his film reviews.
By the way, his trip to see Tron: Legacy had one of the funniest experiences in these strips…
Yikes. That is…something.
Sadly, the last month or so, Marcej has been dealing with the passing of his father.
The emotion of these pieces is quite raw, but it is a testament to Marcej’s storytelling skills that he is able to relate his experiences, as I can only imagine how difficult it must be to sit down and do a comic about these experiences as they are happening.
In any event, if you check out his site here, you can read the archive of all the daily strips going back to April 2010. I would have liked for the navigation between strips to be a bit easier, though.
