All throughout May, I’ll spotlight a different webcomic. Like with the month of independent comics and the month of LGBT comics, I figure I will let you webcomic creators out there suggest your comic for spotlight during this month. So if you want me to spotlight your comic, drop me a line at email@example.com!
Today we look at an entertaining adventure series about what would happen if the Easter Bunny decided to go to war with the other holidays in a little webcomic called, appropriately enough, Holiday Wars. A young teen girl finds herself suddenly the key figure in this war and her adventures after discovering her role is the main narrative focus of the series. The strip is written by Scott King, penciled by Michael Odom, inked by Arturo Said and colored by Giuseppe Pica.
We are introduced to the conflict early on with a disturbing torture scene between the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus…
Sixteen years later, we learn where Santa Claus sent the Holiday Spirit. A newborn, who is now an awkward teenager…
King spends a goodly amount of time introducing us to young Tegan and her personality. Then, her school is attacked by some sort of mutant chicken type creature who kills her school’s coach. A new kid helps her escape, but there seems to be something odd about this new kid…
And that’s basically the set-up of the strip right there. A war between Gaia and the “good” holidays and the Easter Bunny and the holidays that have joined forces with him, including April Fool’s Day.
It is an engaging adventure strip with strong, personality-infused artwork by Odom and Said. The colors by Pica really pop, as well. King really seems to have a great foundation for a long-running series here.
