This month I am posting a review of a different self-published comic book each day for the rest of the month! Here is an archive of the books reviewed so far!

Today I am featuring Eye of the Majestic Creature #3 by Leslie Stein.

Leslie Stein's Eye of the Majestic Creature #3 is a wonderful comic book, and really one of the best books that I've read that was released in 2008.

It reminds me a lot of Josh Cotter's work, in both the artistic style as well as the character-heavy storytelling, with a mixture of humor and sadness that is quite effective.

Really, a fairly depressing existence has rarely been as entertaining as Stein's tale of "Larrybear" a young woman dealing with all sorts of realistic, almost mundane (although sometimes tragic) problems in her life, particularly with her family.

Larrybear reminds me sort of like what the comic strip Luann would be like if Luann was, you know, a good comic.

Here are some sample pages - the first two pages might be the strongest ones, particularly the excellent/sad mother and daughter interaction on the first sample page...

Be sure to check out Stein's web site and buy a copy of this awesome comic! I really ought to find the earlier issues myself!

If you would like to participate in the month with your self-published comic, there probably is not enough time to be featured this month, but if you mail them, I'll still review them eventually! Just check out the Review Copies section to see where to mail a review copy of your comic.
