Every day this month I'm going to feature a current comic book art "star," someone whose work I absolutely love.

I'm mostly going to try to keep from the biggest names as much as possible, because, really, do I need to talk more about the awesomeness of JH Williams, Frank Quitely and Darwyn Cooke? Here's the archive of the artists mentioned so far!

Here's a really nifty artist who has one of the coolest comic book art websites out there!

Enjoy!

I first encountered Dean Trippe's work when I came across this absolutely gorgeous Supergirl drawing he did...

Soon after, I noted that he was caught up in a cool meme of the day, the whole "redesign characters" art meme...

like Batgirl...

Aquaman...

and Impulse...

Along the way, Trippe and Chris Arrant - along with Jessica Plummer, Joel Priddy, and Vito Delsante - parlayed these memes into the great comic book superhero re-design site, Project Rooftop. The site plays host to dozens of redesigns, including a Mike Wieringo tribute that the Impulse one came from.

Trippe doesn't just do re-designs, though.

Check out some of these pin-ups...

the Young Avengers...

Captain America (click to enlarge - WordPress' re-sizers seem to be working for me now)...

a friend of Dean's and her dog...

Here is a sequential page by Dean as well as some character designs from an ill-fated My Name Is Early comic book by Oni...

Dean also does a web-comic called Butterfly, about the sidekick to a SIDEKICK. Basically imagine if Robin had his own 8-year-old sidekick.

Here are two of his Butterfly strips...

Cute, eh?

Here is his website, deantrippe.com, where you can find most of the above drawings at (thanks to Ian Astheimer for providing most of these images when he filled in for Bill Reed last year and featured Dean Trippe as a Reason to Love Comics).

In about a half hour, Dean is also debuting a new column here on Comics Should Be Good! Be sure to check it out!
