While there was a lot of discussion about the post-credits scene of Captain America: The First Avenger, which teased The Avengers, there's been little talk about the closing credits themselves, which combined World War II propaganda art with subtle 2D and 3D animation for amazing results.

Now someone is talking about it -- namely the terrific Art of the Title Sequence blog, which interviews Steve Viola, art director of Rok!t Studio, the company hired by Marvel to create the closing credits for the Joe Johnston film.

"Joe was heavily involved in various aspects of the sequence," Viola says. "His most influential decisions were in the overall concept and the selection of the actual posters that would be used. He was more concerned with the facts, mood, and story of the piece rather than the technical execution. Once the concept changed from creating original propaganda art to existing period posters we had a great amount of autonomy in building and animating the sequence. It was a fantastic process, and an excellent relationship."

Unfortunately, video of the credits sequence isn't embeddable. But you can watch it on the website, where you can also see additional artwork and motion tests.
