WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom #3 from DC Comics, on sale now

The children of the current DC heroes can sometimes have grand destinies of their own -- with Infinite Frontier proving how important Jon Kent, Damian Wayne, and Andy Curry may be in terms of carrying on the heroic legacies of their parents. However, there's always the potential they'd go down a different path and become more fearsome than their parents were heroic.

The current Mister Miracle just learned that first-hand as he's come up against the nefarious daughter of Big Barda and his predecessor in Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom #3 by Brandon Easton, Fico Ossio, Rick Renzi, and Rob Leigh. And along the way, Shilo has learned just how twisted N'vir Free really is.

Mister Miracle Shilo Ne’vir Free 2

The current Mister Miracle, Shilo Norman, has found himself facing off with another part of the legacy identity he's assumed: N'vir Free, a grown daughter of the former Scott Free's Mister Miracle and his wife, Barda. Long ago, the pair escaped Apokolips together, with their blossoming love proving that even the hell-pits of Apokolips could be overcome. Utilizing the Source-powered beings known as the Core, N'vir Free quickly proves herself a worthy inheritor of her mother's strength and combat prowess. Shilo is eventually to overwhelm her and knock her out with the energies of his Mother Box. Utilizing the Mother Box to hack into the Core, he even gets the chance to explore some of N'Vir's memories, learning more about her and her origins.

After reaching adulthood, N'vir went on the warpath searching for Mother Boxes. By attacking any who possessed them, N'vir was able to use them as part of her dictatorship as the head of the Free Galactic Imperium. Her control was felt across the entire galaxy, with countless worlds coming under her sway and command. Mother Box cannot tell if N'vir hails from a different reality, or just from the future of Shilo's world. However, once she collected all the Mother Boxes and went to work creating the Core, N'vir found herself with an unlikely threat: a rebellion that waved the banner of Shilo's version of the Mister Miracle costume. The rebellion ended up causing untold chaos for her empire, ultimately bringing it down and restoring a sense of peace to the galaxy.

By traveling back to the present, N'vir is able to use this opening to hack into and steal Shilo's Motherbox, depowering him and leaving him defeated to watch as she builds her empire in the modern era. In many ways, N'vir is the worst nightmare of Apokolips come true. Barda and Scott did everything they could to escape the tyranny of Darkseid, the brutality of his way of life and the conquest he always sought. But in their daughter, they ultimately raised Darkseid's ultimate successor. N'vir even uses the imagery of her parents as part of her tower, forever tying these two lovers of freedom to her galactic-level empire and perverting the message they fought to spread together. N'vir is the ultimate triumph of Darkseid across generational lines, proving the damage to one's soul from living on Apokolips isn't erased.

Instead, Darkseid's legacy can grow and fester, and even become part of entire new generations. Thanks to N'vir, the kind of cruel empire Darkseid always sought to spread across creation was made possible by the capture and corruption of precious Mother Boxes. N'vir would have made Darkseid proud. Left unchecked, she could have easily become a worse figure than the villainous New God. There was little hope Darkseid would ever be heroic in any way.

But there might have been a chance for N'vir, daughter of two Justice League veterans, to become heroic like her parents. Instead, she became a threat that outweighs almost any good they did, and she risked tearing down entire time-streams in the name of glory and conquest. N'vir is everything Mister Miracle and Barda would likely fear most in the world, made flesh in the worst possible way.
