The two most popular droids from the Star Wars universe are coming together for a new animated series on Disney+
A Droid Story will feature the droid duo of C-3PO and R2-D2, as well as a mysterious new hero. It will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic, and will launch exclusively on the Disney+ streaming platform.
The upcoming show was announced during Disney Investor Day 2020 by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. The event served as a day-long insight into what Walt Disney executives have in store for 2021 and beyond, including new content, timelines and financial objectives. Throughout the day, Disney announced the introduction of many new Disney+ shows including a Star Wars mystery-thriller and an anime anthology series.
"As Lucasfilm continues to develop new stories, the intersection of animation and visual effects offers new opportunities to explore," an official description for A Droid Story reads. "Lucasfilm Animation will be teaming up with Lucasfilm's visual effects team, Industrial Light & Magic, to develop a special Star Wars adventure for Disney+, A Droid Story. This epic journey will introduce us to a new hero, guided by legendary duo R2-D2 and C-3PO."
