Surprise -- the last trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" wasn't the last trailer! Well, maybe it's the last trailer we'll get stateside, but internationally there's a whole different saga being told. This morning, a surprise international trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" dropped, and it came packed with plenty of new footage and even a few more lines of dialogue. Much of the mystery around Episode VII remains intact, but a few awesome moments sneak in just enough info to shed a little more light on this film's plot. Here are eight such awesome moments.
While the partnership between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and BB-8 has been at the heart of the previous trailers, we haven't yet seen how they met. This new trailer includes Rey's first encounter, asking, "Where do you come from?" and revealing that she also knows "all about waiting," possibly "for my family." It's possible those last two snippets of dialogue come from completely different parts of the film, but it's now certain that Rey's heritage will play a part in the movie
Considering how space-heavy the previous trilogies have been, t's still a bit surprising to see iconic Star Wars spaceships flying in a planet's atmosphere. This shot of a squad of TIE Fighters backlit by a sun (Jakku's sun?) shows we're in for plenty of stunning visuals.
These blowtorch-wielding stormtroopers have flashed by onscreen in previous trailers, but this new one gives us a little bit more context for their raid. These guys are torching a settlement of some sort, as evidenced by the fleeing civilians. What could the First Order be trying to cover up and/or destroy?
And there it is -- Rey and Finn (John Boyega) introducing themselves to each other. This is the first time that either character has been showing saying their name in a trailer, and it takes place on the Millennium Falcon to boot. Looks like whatever circumstances throw these two together will be so action-packed that they won't get to make small talk until they're on board that hunk of junk.
While the international promo remained absent of Luke Skywalker, it did give us plenty of C-3PO, a character that's also been absent (but not as noticeably so) from previous trailers. Threepio appears in what looks like a Resistance command enter of some sort, standing alongside Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
This trailer also gives us a lot more BB-8 -- and that's something to be happy about! From meeting Rey to flying in an X-Wing and -- as the light cast on him in the above shot implies -- potentially witnessing the horrors of the First Order's flame-troopers, BB-8 really stole the show this time around.
First of all, have Chewbacca's fingers ever been seen in a movie before? This is a weird first for this trailer to claim, but hey -- it's a first! Secondly, this quick cut in the trailer reveals that Chewie's a bit of a ballistics expert, as he seemingly sets of an explosion in enemy territory.
And they saved the best for last. So far we've only seen dark Jedi Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) cast in darkness, and now here he is, in daylight -- and on the hunt for Rey! We already knew Kylo Ren would cross lightsabers with Finn in the film, and now it looks like Rey's going to get in on the action as well. Here's hoping Rey's weapon is a match for Kylo Ren's.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens on December 18.
