Fire Force has made people look at firefighting in a whole new light. Set in a world where spontaneous human combustion is a common phenomenon, Fire Force is an action-packed shōnen reimagining of a very normal career.

But why should firefighting be the only career that gets this treatment? Here are seven everyday jobs that would be perfect for the anime treatment.

Mail Carriers

A Collection Of Latters

Mail is the backbone of modern commerce. The world's various mail services ferry everything from important supplies, documents and medication, to birthday cards and love letters.

The nature of mail delivery makes it perfect for an exciting anime adaptation. Deliveries needing to arrive in one piece and within a strict time limit opens the door for plenty of thrills and exciting drama. And the scale of the mail network allows the characters to explore many varied locations all over the world.

The series could take inspiration from Death Stranding and be set in a harsh and inhospitable world full of dangerous terrain and wandering monsters, following a team of mail carriers who have access to special powers and specialized vehicles that allow them to navigate it.

Social Workers

Izumi Sakurai From Nichijou

A good social worker must be empathetic and understand the pressures and flaws of society while coming up with ways to improve the lives of everyone they work with. It isn't an easy job, but it is an important one.

The nature of the job would be perfect for an episodic anime series as it could explore a lot of different themes about modern life and society. Adding magical elements, like those found in Fire Force, would allow these issues and concepts to be personified in a whole new way.

A social worker anime could draw inspiration from lawyer-focussed franchise, Phoenix Wright. It could follow a group of superpowered social workers as they deal with monsters borne from negative emotions.

Sewage Workers

Characters from Jin-Roh In A Sewer

Without water processing and sewage treatment, our urban areas wouldn't be able to support large populations and we wouldn't be able to enjoy comfortable, convenient and hygienic bathrooms.

The job is perfect for an anime adaption because of its unique setting. Sewage treatment plants have an unusual aesthetic and the pipes under cities are both a familiar concept and a great mystery to many people.

An anime based on sewage workers could draw inspiration from the urban legend of the sewer alligators. It could feature a group of sewage workers who roam a city's sewer pipes, clearing blockages and fighting horrible monsters created from the sewage.

Zookeepers

Shimono Zoo from Hajime no Ippo

Zookeepers are educators who play a key role in the conservation of animals. They help inform the public about our natural world and tell them how they can help prevent damage to our ecosystems.

Their work is exciting and varied and presents many fun opportunities to explore topics related to environmentalism and conservationism. This could allow writers and artists to come up with fantastical new animals or cool twists on the ones we encounter in the real world.

This series could focus on a zoo that cares for strange or mythical animals. The zookeepers could go on epic adventures to learn about and recover rare animals. They could also work to protect the zoo from poachers and other evildoers who want to use the animals for nefarious purposes.

Public Transit Drivers

Bus from Mayoiga The Lost Village

Public transit is a vital piece of modern urban infrastructure. As we look to tackle climate change, public transit networks are only going to become more important in the future.

Anime built around vehicles is a tried and tested format already. From the street-racing excitement of Initial D to the mecha fantasy of Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion, there is an anime vehicle for every taste. So why not give mass transit vehicles a chance to own the spotlight?

This could take the form of a series focused on drivers who control specialized vehicles that are designed to deal with extremely unusual post-apocalyptic terrain. It could follow them as they do their best to ferry people to the places they needed to be, all while contending with shadowy forces who would prefer that people not be connected.

Tech Support

Ami From Sailor Moon Looking At A Computer

We are constantly surrounded by technology and this technology is supported by many massive systems. If even one of these systems fails, chaos could ensue. Thus, maintaining these systems is of the utmost importance.

Technology opens up so many fun avenues for shōnen anime. The idea of a world inside our technology, or inside the internet, is really interesting and allows for some cool and creative visuals that are only restricted by the artists' imaginations.

A tech support series could take inspiration from Digimon and feature people who physically jump into computers and fix problems, fight against sentient and monstrous computer viruses and even repel teams of hackers who aim to destroy important systems.

Farmers

Anime Farmer From Mushi-Shi

Farming and food production is the backbone of society, but don't think growing crops and raising animals is an easy career. Modern farming is a complex and difficult job requiring a deep knowledge of ecology, business and technology.

Because of this, the career is perfect for an anime adaptation as there are a lot of different things you could focus on, from the physical act of planting and maintaining the crops to the difficult business decisions every farmer needs to make. Like firefighting, it is a career that everyone is familiar with yet one few know very much about.

This series could be focused on one farm, or a group of farms, that are trying to maintain the food supply chain despite the fact their land is under siege from monsters, disease or even something that turns their own crops into horrific triffid-like creatures that are hellbent on the destruction of the world.
