Following "Secret Wars," things are headed in an "All-New, All-Different" direction at Marvel Comics. New characters, new teams and new creators will all refashion the Marvel Universe this October as the publisher launches 45 new series. As many expected, the Hulk will continue to be part of this new landscape, but unlike previous Hulks, this new gamma-irradiated monster won't be "Incredible" or "Savage." When veteran "Hulk" writer Greg Pak and superstar artist Frank Cho tackle him during this new era, the eponymous character will be "Totally Awesome."

Marvel Announces Greg Pak & Frank Cho's "Totally Awesome Hulk"

In the past, there have been green Hulks and Red Hulks, female Hulks and grey Hulks -- but this is Marvel's first "Awesome" Hulk. Marvel is keeping this new Hulk's identity under wraps until the first issue ships, but there are many intriguing possibilities regarding who might be wearing those purple pants. Without further adieu, join us as we journey across the Marvel Universe to find a character that has what it takes to be worthy of the name Hulk.

Rick Jones

The "Totally Awesome" subtitle suggests the new Hulk might skew a bit younger, and Rick Jones has been a constant youthful presence in "The Incredible Hulk" since day one. Recently, Jones was cured of being the gamma-irradiated hero known as A-Bomb so the next chapter of the saga of Rick Jones still needs to be written. There would be a certain irony if the young man responsible for the Incredible Hulk's creation becomes the next Green Goliath. Jones has been a cosmic hero, a rock star and a partner to Captain America, but through every change in Jones' long career he has remained totally awesome.

Hercules

Writer Greg Pak has a long and storied history with Hercules. Could the next stage of Herc's godlike evolution be as the new Hulk? "Totally Awesome" certainly fits the humorous tone Pak established in his previous "Hercules" series, and it would be ironic if such a legendary slayer of beasts became one himself. Most of all, it would be totally awesome to see Pak return to Hercules, a character with whom he worked wonders in the past.

Thor Odinson

Speaking of gods... Frank Cho's promo image sure obscures more than just this new Hulk's face, doesn't it? Take a close look and you'll notice that this new Hulk's arm is shadowed as well. Recently, Thor Odinson has not only lost his hammer and his powers, he also lost his arm. In addition to all these changes to Thor, the future of the former god of thunder post-"Secret Wars" has been shrouded in mystery. Could the future of the Odinson be big, green, and totally awesome? It would be a fascinating direction for the original Thor if he were to become a one armed amalgamation of two Avengers.

Iron Fist (Danny Rand)

Building on the obscured hand theory, enter Iron Fist. Danny Rand is a martial artist, the wielder of a legendary mystical power and a wealthy businessman. He's been a Hero for Hire, a Defender and even an Avenger, and the character will soon be headed to Netflix for a live-action series following in the footsteps of "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones" and his best friend "Luke Cage." In other words, he's pretty awesome. Following the dark tone of Kaare Andrews' "Iron Fist: The Living Weapon," it's certainly possible Marvel might be looking to take Rand in a lighter direction, something the "Totally Awesome" moniker seemingly implies.

Ganke Lee

While this may seem like it's coming out of left field, it also makes perfect sense. Ganke Lee is Miles Morales' best friend and total super hero nerd. We already know Miles is coming to the Marvel Universe proper, and it would be a shame if the Ultimate Spider-Man had to leave his bro behind. If Ganke gained Hulk's powers, the ultimate super hero fanboy would probably feel like his new status quo was totally awesome.

Amadeus Cho

Amadeus Cho is one of the smartest humans in the world and was a major supporting character in both Pak's "Incredible Hulk" and "Hercules" series. Cho has some parallels to Bruce Banner in that he is a genius level thinker who lacks in the physical strength department. But Cho is a supremely confident young man who could make for a very different kind of thinking man's Hulk. He is arrogant, brilliant, brave and, when it comes to figuring out a way to save the day, Cho is (say it with us) totally awesome. The fact that Cho featured so heavily in Pak's previous Marvel work makes us believe he's the odds-on favorite to become very big and very green.
