In honor of the Daredevil's brand-new TV series, we're counting down your picks for the fifty greatest Daredevil stories.

Here are the next five stories on the countdown!

Enjoy!

40. "Latveria steals Daredevil's other four senses" (Daredevil Vol.3 #13-16)

(Just as a note - none of the stories in Daredevil Vol. 3 have names, so we'll just have to go with descriptions of the stories)

Daredevil #13 really isn't part of the story, it just ends with Daredevil being kidnapped and imprisoned, which leads into the real story from #14-16. Anyhow, the idea behind this arc is that Daredevil's recent success in taking on the super-powered crime syndicates of the world resulted in Latveria losing out on a lot of money that it invested into the crime families. So one of Doctor Doom's ministers decides to kidnap Daredevil to get reparations. One way to make up for the loss is to learn how to develop Daredevil's Radar Sense as a weapon for Latverian soldiers. So they experiment on him using nano-bots. One of the experiments ends up with him slowly losing all his remaining four senses (touch, taste, smell and hearing). He tries to escape, only his depleted senses do him wrong...

Deprived of his senses, though, Matt discovers a depth to his abilities that he never knew existed.

The Avengers end up getting involved, including a touching connection between Hank Pym and Daredevil as the former tries to rid the latter of the nano-bots by shrinking down to microscopic size. Mark Waid wrote it and Chris Samnee and Javier Rodriguez drew it.

39. "Beer With the Devil" (Daredevil #266)

After the events of the Typhoid Mary storyline, Daredevil has found his personal life is in shambles. It gets so bad that he has no place to go on Christmas except a local bar. While there, Daredevil befriends a mysterious woman who has some tough words to say to Matt...

Is there more to this mysterious woman than it appears?

The story was written by Ann Nocenti and it was drawn by John Romita Jr and Al Williamson.

38. "Devils" (Daredevil #169)

In just his second issue as the writer of Daredevil, Frank Milller (who wrote and penciled the issue, with inks by Klaus Janson) brought back Bullseye with a striking hook - Bullseye had a brain tumor that was causing him to see EVERYONE as Daredevil!

The issue puts Daredevil into a difficult predicament - if he just leaves Bullseye alone, Bullseye will eventually die from the tumor. But he might kill some people before that point, so obviously Daredevil has to stop him - but does he also have to see to it that Bullseye gets medical attention for the tumor?

Read on to the next page for #37-36!

37. "Acts of Vengeance" (Daredevil #275-276)

Acts of Vengeance was a Marvel crossover where a group of villains organized a much larger simultaneous attack on the superheros of the world. The plan was to have all the villains of the world switch opponents so that, say, an X-Men foe is fighting Captain America. Daredevil was unlucky enough to draw Ultron as his opponent. Not just ANY Ultron, though, as Doctor Doom took a few different earlier robots (including Ultron 12, who LIKED humans) to create his own Ultron, who he programs to kill Daredevil. The thing is that the Ultron has multiple personalities now and tries to make sense of its own existence. This came out during a period where Daredevil was traveling with Gorgon and Karnak of the Inhumans, as well as Number Nine, a synthetic being. Ultron becomes obsessed Number Nine...

Ann Nocenti wrote the story, with art by John Romita Jr. and Al Williamson.

36. "Decalogue" (Daredevil Vol.2 #71-75)

In this story arc by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, Hell's Kitchen is still reeling from Daredevil's recent game-changing action from earlier in Bendis' run. A Catholic Church in the area is having a group meeting for people affected by Daredevil. In the first couple of issues, it was just stories of how Daredevil unknowingly inspired the lives of two ordinary citizens. As the arc continues, though, we discover that thee is a supernatural element to the storyline, as we soon realize that the people in the group are connected even more than they expected, as a demon is going around possessing people, wreaking havoc. One of the people it possess is one of the members of the group! However, they then meet ANOTHER mysterious member of the group that was there for the whole group...

Matt ends the arc with a speech to his support group about why he does what he does (dress up like a devil and fight crime). The speech alone practically makes rhe arc worth reading.
