There are many meaningful ways to evaluate the personalities of characters in the world of anime, with the Dungeons & Dragons moral alignment chart and the Myers-Briggs personality types being just the tip of the iceberg. These characters can also be measured by their sense of responsibility and restraint, and lending them a credit card is a great way to test their financial literacy.

Getting a credit card is a major step for any young adult, who can spend big money for the first time, while also learning to budget and track their spending and handle credit card payments. It's a big responsibility, and not all anime characters are ready for it. Some will spend their money carefully and pay their credit card bills on time, while other characters would go wild and get a nasty surprise when their card finally gets declined.

10 CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Ichigo Kurosaki, Who Has A Good Head On His Shoulders

Ichigo Post Time Skip

Some shonen protagonists are the classic "reckless but brave" type, such as Son Goku or Monkey D. Luffy, and they tend to be impulsive as well. The same isn't true of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is mature beyond his years, unlike his shonen peers.

Ichigo is a punkish kid but a good student, and he has a strong sense of responsibility for his grades and for looking after his younger sisters. Ichigo would, at most, use a credit card to cover unexpected expenses such as a trip to the hospital or perhaps a new set of clothes for himself and his sisters when the seasons change.

9 CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Sasha Braus, The Reckless Scout (Attack On Titan)

The people of Paradis Island don't actually have credit cards, but surely they have money and banks, as well as smaller money-lending companies. Perhaps Mikasa Ackerman would get approved for a loan, but no one should let Sasha Braus get anywhere near a credit card.

Sasha is a brave and loyal person, but she is also impulsive, spontaneous, and shows little restraint (often where food is concerned). She's also from the rustic countryside and has no experience with interest rates, credit scores, and paying bills. She'd get in over her head quickly.

8 CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Misaki Ayuzawa, Who's Always Careful With Money (Maid-Sama!)

Much like Ichigo Kurosaki, Misaki Ayuzawa is a responsible student and elder sibling. In her case, she is the student council president of Seika high school and has one younger sister, Suzuna. Misaki prides herself on being practical and down-to-earth, and she keeps a cool head in a crisis.

That's already promising, and what is more, the Ayuzawa household is tight on money, so Misaki is quite used to avoiding frivolous expenses and making every last yen count. She wouldn't dare spend any money on that credit card that she couldn't pay back later to the credit card company.

7 CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Lupin III, The Master Thief (Lupin III)

Anime Lupin The Third Lupin Smug

The master thief Lupin III is sneaky and crafty, but not evil. If he borrowed someone else's credit card, he'd soon return it, but Lupin should not be allowed to apply for his own credit card. He would scam every credit card company in the world for easy, up-front money.

Lupin would buy all kinds of gadgets, plane tickets, and more with his credit cards, and once he maxes them out, he will assume a disguise and flee without paying back a cent. He'd use all kinds of fake names while applying for those cards, too. Now that's some fraud.

6 CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Miyuki Shirogane, The Student President (Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War)

miyuki shirogane kaguya-sama

In many regards, Miyuki Shirogane is the counterpart to Misaki Ayuzawa. He, too, is a student council president, and he gets perfect grades are Shuchiin Academy. Miyuki has to set a good example, and he wouldn't let credit card debt pile up for long.

And like Misaki, Miyuki comes from a low-income household where every yen counts, and Miyuki simply can't afford to get himself into a vicious cycle of debt. He knows better than to get a new credit card to pay off the debt on a previous one, and his credit score is sure to hit 850 before long.

5 CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Shu Tsukiyama, The Gourmet Ghoul (Tokyo Ghoul)

Many ghouls have little need for money since they don't even have to buy groceries. They simply attack and eat people, which costs them nothing but time. Still, some ghouls try to pass themselves off as human and live human lifestyles, and for that, they need money.

Shu Tsukiyama, for all his expensive suits and lofty tastes, cannot be trusted with a credit card. He is highly hedonistic and rather impulsive, and he's arrogant enough to max out a card, then find and kill the employees of the credit card company to avoid the debt. Ghouls don't play fair, even in the world of finance.

4 CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Ochaco Uraraka, The Zero-Gravity Hero (My Hero Academia)

ochaco uraraka mha

Ochaco Uraraka, AKA Uravity, is yet another anime character who knows the value of money since she has so little of it. Her parents work in the construction sector, but they sometimes struggle to find work, and the Uraraka household is only barely making ends meet. They're in no position to blow cash on impulsive expenses.

For that reason alone, Ochaco has good sense when it comes to money and could be trusted to handle a credit card without going overboard. Besides, Ochaco has a strong sense of fairness and responsibility, and she would feel strange spending lots of money on herself even if she could afford to.

3 CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Satoru Gojo, The Whimsical Sorcerer (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Satoru Gojo is a powerful sorcerer and a fairly effective teacher, as Yuki Itadori soon found out for himself. Satoru is somewhat erratic and impulsive, though, and he is known to annoy everyone with his inconvenient whims and slightly self-centered behavior. He's a bit sneaky at times, too.

Satoru would have way too much fun with a credit card, and he'd feel entitled to max it out on fun stuff due to his position as a sorcerer, then nag someone else (such as the headmaster) into handling the debt. Then he'd skip off and find something else random to do.

kyoko hori horimiya

Kyoko Hori is one of the two main characters of this rom-com series, with the other being the surprisingly warm-hearted and generous Izumi Miyamura. At school, Kyoko Hori is popular and outgoing, and at home, she is a responsible big sister. So far, so good.

Kyoko's household isn't especially tight on money, but the Horis don't live lavishly, either, and they run a tight ship. Kyoko's level-headed personality and sense of duty would make her a highly reliable owner of a credit card, and she won't dare take out a loan that she can't pay back on time. She's got a good head on those shoulders.

1 CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH A CREDIT CARD: Ayame Sohma, Yuki's Wild Big Brother (Fruits Basket)

Ayame Sohma with his hair braided and his left hand elegantly up by his face from Fruits Basket.

Deep down, Ayame Sohma is there when his younger brother Yuki needs him, but that wasn't always the case. Ayame is also known for being rather self-absorbed and whimsical, and he's not afraid to spend big bucks to sew up a fancy outfit for himself, his assistant, Mine, or his new friend, Tohru Honda.

Ayame would go hog wild with a credit card, loading up his closet with showy gowns, coats, boots, hats, and probably some other impulsive (and unnecessary) purchases on the side. If anyone called him out on this, Ayame might simply say that he's setting an example for Yuki on how not to handle a credit card. That's a nice sentiment, but it won't make his overdue bills go away.
