3D Porn Movie Takes Down Avatar At Hong Kong Box Office

Avatar is the product of almost 20 years' worth of work on the part of director James Cameron. Untold millions were spent bringing the space-age 3D epic to screens, with reports pinning the budget to somewhere around the half-a-billion-dollar mark. It's the top-grossing movie of all time in the United States and it sets box office records wherever it goes, including opening day sales in Hong Kong of HK$2.6 million (about $335,000 in U.S. currency).

Now, a 3D porn film -- the world's first -- has taken it down. 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy opened in Hong Kong with ticket sales totaling HK$2.8 million, AFP reports. The film's total gross so far hovers around HK$15 million ($1.9 million U.S.). Demand is so high that an extended version of the movie has been announced for release in a few weeks, adding an additional 15 minutes to the running time.

And there you have it. Avatar was outsold by porn. News flash.
