Welcome to 31 Days of Horror Comics, where I will spotlight some of the best horror comics around, as chosen by a bunch of my favorite horror comic writers and artists around!

Today's creator is Rachel Pollack, who followed Grant Morrison on Doom Patrol...

Pollack worked with artist Ted McKeever (whose recommendation was featured earlier in 31 Days of Horror Comics) towards the end of the run...

Rachel's suggestion is "Blind Alleys" from the final issue of EC Comics' Tales From the Crypt #46 in 1954. The story was by Al Feldstein and the art was by George Evans (Bill Gaines likely helped with the plotting of the story).

It opens with a landlord who owns a home for the blind and he keeps it is terrible state of disrepair, figuring that who cares what a blind person thinks about a terrible looking apartment? He then lives a life of luxury while they live in squalor...

However, eventually, the citizens of the home have had enough and they lure the landlord and his big dog to their home, where they then capture him and hold him and his dog captive. They starve the dog to the point where he is a crazed and hungry killer. They then release the landlord into a maze that they've created in the home with razor blades all over the walls. They then let his own dog chase after him and he would perhaps have a chance to escape but, well, they turned off the lights!

This was one of the top stories of the EC Comics era, which is why it is no surprise that it was one of the stories that was adapted to the Tales From the Crypt film.

Rachel noted that it was a story that she read as a child and it really stuck with her vividly.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rachel!
