As if Season One of Netflix's "Daredevil" wasn't dark and gritty enough, Marvel Studios went on ahead and added the Punisher to the show. Yep, the merciless, gun-toting vigilante alter-ego of Frank Castle will play a part in "Daredevil's" second season -- and "Walking Dead" alum Jon Bernthal will be the one toting all those guns. While we don't yet know how involved Bernthal's Punisher will be, we do know that his involvement is big enough to warrant the release of a bullet-riddled "Daredevil" logo.

Jon Bernthal to Play The Punisher on "Daredevil" Season 2

Seeing as how Punisher is a big enough character to warrant three feature film adaptations, his inclusion in a supporting role this time around might seem like a head-scratcher to some. To longtime readers of "Daredevil," though, this move makes perfect sense as the two have been regular allies and enemies since their first encounter in 1982. To give everyone a crash course on Punisher's history with Daredevil, we've assembled a list of 23 times these two street-level characters have shared a cover. You'll see that sometimes they're on friendly terms -- and other times Punisher is shooting Daredevil in the gut.

1. Nothing says "Nice to meet you" like a bullet to the stomach.

2. Then there was the time they crashed through a window together.

3. And then there was the time they battled like Kaiju.

4. There was the time Daredevil made Punisher smell his glove -- and Punisher retaliated by making Daredevil smell his elbow.

5. Punisher never forgot the time Daredevil walked in on him while changing.

6. There was the time Daredevil jumped on a maniacal Punisher.

7. One time, Daredevil paid Punisher back for that whole bullet to the stomach thing.

8. There was also the time they set aside their differences to fight a lot of ninjas...

9. ...and the period of time when they let Nomad hang out with them.

10. Sometimes Punisher made Daredevil watch while he hung out with Ghost Rider.

11. Eventually Daredevil got to jump into action with both Pun and GR.

12. There was the time Daredevil showed off his Olympic-level gymnastic ability, but Punisher was distracted.

13. There was also the time that their logos became friendly...

14. ...which was around the time Punisher put DD back in his sights.

15-20. Then there was the time Daredevil and Punisher treated six comic book covers like a wrestling pay-per-view.

21. After that, it's no surprise that DD refused to step out of the shadows on their next cover.

22. They drew a line on this cover and stayed on their respective sides.

23. And lastly, there was the time Punisher hogged the cover of DD's own book.
